Abstract

In this article we present a discussion of the way thematic analysis, a qualitative method borrowed from the social sciences, is being increasingly used by veterinary researchers to investigate a range of complex issues. By considering the ontological and epistemological aspects of thematic analysis, we question whether this tool is currently being used appropriately by researchers and discuss how additional engagement with the social sciences and their theories would enrich research practices and their findings.
