Abstract
Mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSCs) are being used in an increasingly broad range of clinical applications in horses, dogs and cats. In this position statement, we aim to provide guidelines to improve reporting research involving the use of MSCs in veterinary clinical settings to drive a more robust approach to this area of research and thus ensure outputs are useful, clinically relevant and informative. We propose that there should be minimal definition criteria for the identity of the cells under investigation and that reporting of inclusion/exclusion clinical criteria and standard outcome measures is essential. We propose that this framework is consistently used as our understanding and application of other technologies to this field develops. Incorporating these guidelines in the planning and publication of research this will drive higher scientific standards and enable better comparison between studies.
